Thousands of Tanzanian Christians attended Easter prayers yesterday with clerics calling on the public to maintain the country’s peace and harmony.
Speaking during Easter mass held at ‘Mama wa Huruma’ parish in Ngokolo Town, Bishop Liberatus Sangu of the Catholic diocese in Shinyanga region urged Christians to live in fear of God and refrain from acts that may breach the prevailing peace and tranquility.
The Bishop said that by so doing Christians place themselves closer to God and are likely to live a happier and peaceful life.
“As we celebrate Easter we must always live to please the Almighty God, we should refrain from committing sins to ensure peace in our homes and the nation,” he said.
Bishop Sangu noted that when people live without the fear of God the nation becomes vulnerable to endless conflicts and war. He said believing in God is just enough to save people from conflicts.
He urged Christians to celebrate Easter in a peaceful manner by visiting and offering sacrifices to those in need.
On his part, Morogoro diocese Bishop Telesphore Mkude also urged Tanzanians to ensure they maintain the current peace and tranquility.
He stressed on the need for Christians to use the Easter story as one for hope for the future.
Archbishop of Songea, Damian Denis Dallu also said that Tanzania is a very peaceful nation thus “we should make sure that this peace is there to stay for the current and future generations.”
He also urged leaders to act immediately whenever there are acts which threaten peace in the country citing the ongoing terrorism threats in neighboring countries.
Speaking at the Easter mass in Moshi Municipality, Archbishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT), Dr Fredrick Shoo also asked Tanzania to live as Jesus Christ lived.
