During the night of March 29, Mseti  Waitara (32) of Bikongwe sub-village in Nyankoni village, Itiryo ward was allegedly stealing goods from a shop owned by Nchagwa Chaegere.

Regional Police Commander (RPC) for Tarime/Rorya Special Police Zone, ACP Andrew Satta, said three other suspects were arrested by police in collaboration with people in the area.

He said on the fateful night a group of people suspected to be gangsters armed with firearms, and traditional weapons stormed into a shop of Nchagwa Chegere, and managed to steal items worth 1,145,600/-.

“But, Chegere called for help, and  nearby villagers came to rescue him and the wananchi managed beat Mseti  until he breathed his last, ” the RPC said.

“After few minutes, our police officers arrived at the scene and found that the man was already dead,” he said, adding that with the support of wananchi, police started hunting for the gangsters who had fled and managed to arrest them.

Those who were arrested include Morange  Choronga (28), Chacha  Waitara (27) and Magaigwa Mohabe (33) all from Kangariani village in the district.
